Addressed Post Cards

Curated by Kehinde Wiley to benefit Black Rock Senegal
at Jeffrey Deitch Los Angeles, November 6-December 23, 2021

This set of 30 postcards features a selection of artworks from the exhibition “Self-Addressed,” curated by Kehinde Wiley.  For this landmark exhibition, Wiley invited contemporary African artists living throughout the world to each produce a self-portrait. Together these portraits present a new exploration of identity, perception, and self-regard within the global stage through the lens of figuration, exploring notions of perspective, authorship and control within acts of expression that directly address the self. Together, these portraits offer an examination of the myth of the monolithic ‘Africa’ and an exploration of contemporary artists’ visual definitions of what it means to be ‘African’ or ‘of Africa.’

Featured artists include: Adeji Tawiah, Barthelemy Toguo, Chukwudubem Busayo Ukaigwe, Collins Obijaku, Ekene Emeka-Maduka, Eniwaye Oluwaseyi, Félicité Codjo, Gael Maski, Harold Offeh, Jerry Quarshie, Juwon Aderemi, Lindokuhle Khumalo, Mbali Dhlamini, Moussa TraoréMwangi Hutter, Ngimbi Bakambana, Nonzuzo GxekwaOluwole OmofemiOmar Ba, Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, Salifou LindouShabu Mwangi, Stacey Gillian Abe, Temitayo Ogunbiyi, Teresa Kutala Firmino, Tosin Kalejaye, Tyna Adebowale, Victor Ubah and Yagazie Emezi.

About Black Rock Senegal

Established in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal. The program brings together international artists to live and work at Wiley’s coastal compound for 1-3 month residencies. Designed by Senegalese architect Abib Djenne, the complex includes a residence and studio space for Wiley along with 3 single-occupancy residency apartments with adjacent studio spaces. Our mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa. More information about Black Rock is available online at
