Reclining Nude Skateboard Deck

$250.00

This limited edition 2023 skate deck features Kehinde Wiley's 2022 painting titled Reclining Nude in Wooded Setting (Edidiong Ikobah)first exhibited in Kehinde Wiley: An Archaeology of Silence at Foundazione Giorgio Cini  as a collateral event of the 59th international art exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Expanding on Kehinde Wiley's body of work DOWN from 2008, which was initially inspired by Hans Holbein the Younger's The Dead Christ in the Tomb as well as historical paintings and sculptures of fallen warriors and figures in the state of repose, Wiley created an unsettling series of prone Black bodies, re-conceptualizing classical pictorial forms to create a contemporary version of monumental portraiture, resounding with violence, pain, and death, as well as ecstasy.

About Black Rock Senegal

Reclining Nude Skateboard Deck

Established in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal. The program brings together international artists to live and work at Wiley’s coastal compound for 1-3 month residencies. Designed by Senegalese architect Abib Djenne, the complex includes a residence and studio space for Wiley along with 3 single-occupancy residency apartments with adjacent studio spaces. Our mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa.
