Simeon the God Receiver Silk Robe
This limited edition silk robe features Kehinde Wiley’s 2015 painting Simeon the God Receiver, reimagined from the icon that is based on the story of Saint Simeon. According to tradition, he died at the great age of 360 after receiving the infant Christ in the Temple of Jerusalem. Wiley’s model, Eric Murphy, is covered in tattoos from head to toe – including a rosary, a portrait of his son, and the Rolling Stones magazine logo on his stomach. Murphy’s overt appearance immediately renders the thematic injustices of omission within the historical practice of western portraiture to its viewer. In his sacred stance, Murphy is accompanied by a flat, fluorescent botanical background, with plant tendrils entwining around his legs.
100% silk with a satin finish 19mm.
