Green Leaf Umbrella
Our limited edition Green Leaf umbrella uniquely features not one but two of Kehinde Wiley paintings. The mirrored fists are sampled from Three Wise Men Greeting Entry Into Lagos (2008), first exhibited at the Studio Museum in Harlem as a part of The World Stage: Africa, Lagos-Dakar series. The painting is in the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts permanent collection, and references the Art Deco statue Welcome to Lagos, which stood in Nigeria along the Lagos-Ibadan toll gate between 1991 to 2004.
The green botanical background references a William Cooke wallpaper pattern from the late 19th century, featured in Wiley’s Lunch with Inettia, Lucemy and Soukenya (2021), which was shown in the group show Luncheon on the Grass at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery in Los Angeles. The show featured multiple artists reimagination of Édouard Manet’s 1863 painting Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe.
