Armor Canvas Tote Bag

$65.00

This limited edition tote bag features Kehinde Wiley’s 2019 painting Portrait of Nelly Moudime, an oval painting from a series featuring models in classical European armor. She is the subject of two other Kehinde Wiley paintings — one from a hip hop inspired photoshoot styled by design-duo Dee and Ricky (Portrait of Nelly Moudime II, 2020), as well as a group portrait from the same shoot (Portrait of Nelly Moudime and Najaee Hall, 2020). She appears in front of a fluorescent botanical background, inspired by a Russian, late 19th century velvet munisak.

About Black Rock Senegal

Established in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal. The program brings together international artists to live and work at Wiley’s coastal compound for 1-3 month residencies. Designed by Senegalese architect Abib Djenne, the complex includes a residence and studio space for Wiley along with 3 single-occupancy residency apartments with adjacent studio spaces. Our mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa. More information about Black Rock is available online at www.blackrocksenegal.org.
