Mrs. Waldorf Umbrella

$125.00

Our limited edition Mrs. Waldorf umbrella features Kehinde Wiley’s 2012 painting Mrs. Waldorf Astor, reimagined from John Singer Sargent’s 1908 painting of the same title. In collaboration with Riccardo Tisci, Creative Director of Givenchy at the time, Wiley’s model is enrobed in a custom-made white dress. A nearly identical composition to its 20th century counterpart, the background is flattened with plant tendrils, entwining around the models body and into the foreground.

Hardwood handle, 100% Polyester, and 48" arc canopy.

Designed in NYC. Made in China.

Net proceeds from your purchase support the artists-in-residence program Black Rock Sénégal, founded by Wiley in 2019.

About Black Rock Senegal

Mrs. Waldorf Umbrella

Established in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal. The program brings together international artists to live and work at Wiley’s coastal compound for 1-3 month residencies. Designed by Senegalese architect Abib Djenne, the complex includes a residence and studio space for Wiley along with 3 single-occupancy residency apartments with adjacent studio spaces. Our mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa. More information about Black Rock is available online at www.blackrocksenegal.org.
