This limited edition silk robe features Kehinde Wiley’s 2015 painting Simeon the God Receiver, reimagined from the icon that is based on the story of Saint Simeon. According to tradition, he died at the great age of 360 after receiving the infant Christ in the Temple of Jerusalem. Wiley’s model, Eric Murphy, is covered in tattoos from head to toe – including a rosary, a portrait of his son, and the Rolling Stones magazine logo on his stomach. Murphy’s overt appearance immediately renders the thematic injustices of omission within the historical practice of western portraiture to its viewer. In his sacred stance, Murphy is accompanied by a flat, fluorescent botanical background, with plant tendrils entwining around his legs. 100% silk with a satin finish 19mm. This Limited Edition Deck of Cards features Kehinde Wiley's 2007 masterpiece, St. Bartholomew. Wiley skillfully reimagines Jusepe de Ribera's 1634 painting of the same title, inviting us to traverse the crossroads of tradition and contemporary identity. Through vibrant patterns, the artist breathes new life into the historical narrative, presenting a powerful portrayal of a modern saint. Mirroring its 17th-century counterpart, the composition remains nearly identical, with a background adorned in vintage and ornate details of kittens, yarn, and chicks, playfully patterning around the model's body and extending into the soft pink foreground. 54 playing cards, linen embossed finish. This all-over printed notebook features one of Kehinde Wiley’s early works from the series Conspicuous Fraud, a group of paintings which emphasize and explore the beauty of natural black hair. The Conspicuous Fraud Series #1 (Eminence) Notebook draws inspiration from Wiley’s artwork of the same name, made by the artist while he was in residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 2001. Twisting and turning through the sky, the contours of the subject’s oversized Afro hairdo transform into clouds, confusing the relationship of the subject and the background of the picture.Notebook7.4 x 9.8 x .75 inchesMade in Germany Net proceeds from your purchase support the artist in residence program Black Rock Sénégal, founded by Wiley in 2019.

Expanding on Kehinde Wiley's body of work DOWN from 2008, which was initially inspired by Hans Holbein the Younger's The Dead Christ in the Tomb as well as historical paintings and sculptures of fallen warriors and figures in the state of repose, Wiley created an unsettling series of prone Black bodies, re-conceptualizing classical pictorial forms to create a contemporary version of monumental portraiture, resounding with violence, pain, and death, as well as ecstasy. 3" x 4" lucite magnet. This limited edition silk twill scarf features Kehinde Wiley’s painting ‘Two Heroic Sisters of the Grassland,' 2011.  Titled after the Chinese parable about two Mongolian sisters, who almost sacrifice their lives to protect their flock of sheep, the piece depicts two subjects, possibly brothers, who stand side by side with their arms in a salute. Based around a story which explores themes of dedication and perseverance, this piece demonstrates the power of unity over division and the importance of the black community to engage in harmony, especially in the face of adversity. This 3 x 3 in square patch features Kehinde Wiley’s 2009 painting Nelson Silva Eaflanzino Jr. The model, of the same name, is a resident of Vidigal, a neighborhood and favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The models for this series were sourced from the surrounding Rio de Janeiro area for The World Stage: Brazil series, some of which were recruited at Petrobas Espaco Cultural Nos do moro, a non-profit school for the Arts, where many actors from the 2003 Academy Award nominated film City of God were discovered. Confidently gazing into the viewer's eyes, Eaflanzino is immersed in a floral background that protrudes around his body and into the foreground, which is common practice for many compositions throughout Wiley’s oeuvre. This 32-page coloring book includes 15 ready to be colored-in works from Kehinde Wiley's 2013 exhibition The World Stage: Jamaica. First exhibited at Stephen Friedman Gallery in London, Wiley, using his notorious street casting method, places contemporary Jamaican natives in heroic poses that reference directly from 17th and 18th century British portraiture and feature background patterns inspired by British textiles. The body of works offers a corrective to the omission of the black figure from art history and specifically comments on the nature of the relationship between the United Kingdom and its former colonial holding. Wiley’s exhibition The World Stage: Jamaica is part of a broader project titled "The World Stage," which presents portraits of black and brown men and women the artist met in China, Brazil, Nigeria, Haiti, Israel, and India.  -8.5"x11" -15 illustrated works to color-in -Soft-touch, coated paper finish -Recommended mediums: non-bleed markers and wax or oil-based......
