Blue Boy Candle Blue Boy Candle
Blue Boy Candle
The Blue Boy candle is titled after Kehinde Wiley's painting, A Portrait of a Young Gentleman (2021), created as a contemporary response to Thomas Gainsborough's iconic Blue Boy portrait (1770).  This limited edition candle is inspired by the manner in which Wiley's painting reimagines Gainsboroughs young, white subject as a Black, Senegalese surfer, and replaces the original moody, wooded landscape with a vibrant floral backdrop.  The scent is comprised of a poignant blend of cedar wood, incense, Siberian Fir and black pepper. Candle boxes may contain oil spots on the inner portion, this does not affect the outside of the box or the functionality of the candle. Net proceeds from your purchase support the artist in residence program Black Rock Sénégal, founded by Wiley in 2019.

Portrait of Kaysy J. Gotay II Beach Towel
Immerse yourself in the intersection of art and luxury with our exclusive beach towel featuring the captivating background of Kehinde Wiley's Portrait of Kaysy J. Gotay II, 2022. More than just an accessory, it's a powerful statement piece that reflects Wiley's exploration of race and identity in a post-colonial age. Kehinde Wiley's painting employs the heroic visual vocabulary of European portraiture to depict a contemporary Black woman. The subject is portrayed as casually dressed yet undeniably commanding, with one hand on her hip and the other raised in a gesture of self-presentation. Viewed from below in a three-quarter view, she gazes confidently at the viewer, embodying strength and self-assurance. The lavish floral background in the painting draws upon an Indian design reproduced by Jean-Antoine Fraisse in his 1735 "Book of Chinese Designs taken from the originals of Persia, of the Indies, of China and of Japan." This intricate pattern creates stark visual and cultural juxt......

Portrait of Issa Diatta II Beach Towel
Step into a world where history meets modernity with our exclusive beach towel featuring the dynamic background of Kehinde Wiley's Portrait of Issa Diatta II, 2021. This towel is a perfect blend of art, culture, and luxury, making it a must-have accessory for those who appreciate the finer things in life. In this painting, Kehinde Wiley captures Issa Diatta in a posture reminiscent of an 18th-century general overlooking a successful maneuver on the battlefield. With his chin held high and a sheathed sword in his left hand, Diatta exudes a timeless strength and confidence. However, his modern attire—a deep blue sweatshirt, a low-hanging gold chain, and purple and black wristbands—creates a striking contrast, making him a man out of time. The background features the intricate details of House of Hackney's non-conformist take on a traditional floral design, “Artemis.” Inspired by William Morris's work and Diana Vreeland's iconic 'Garden in Hell' room, this painterly print depicts Victo......

Portrait of Tarek and Michael Beach Towel
Wrap yourself in art and culture with our new exclusive beach towel featuring the stunning background of Kehinde Wiley's Portrait of Tarek Ali Ellis and Michael Morgan, 2023. More than just a summer essential, it's a celebration of Wiley’s inimitable contemporary mastery, offering a rich exploration into his unrivaled oeuvre that celebrates Black and brown people from around the world. Wiley's painting reimagines a classical depiction of the Virgin Mary supporting the body of the dead Christ, positioning the figures in the lower half of the canvas. This leads our eye through the elaborate, decorative background and takes our mind on a profound art historical journey. The background of this iconic painting features John Henry Dearle's 1882 print, Blackthorn, which is heavily influenced by the style of William Morris. The symmetrical design along a central vertical axis echoes within Dearle's and Morris's work, creating a striking juxtaposition with Wiley's modern subjects and their t......
