Blue Boy T-Shirt

$140.00

This  all over print, unisex t-shirt features imagery directly pulled from Kehinde Wiley’s painting, A Portrait of a Young Gentleman.  Luxuriously crafted with comfort and durability in mind, this t-shirt is made from soft, ring-spun poly.  Cut and sewn in LA.

Adapted specifically for this t-shirt, Wiley’s painting A Portrait of a Young Gentleman (2021) was created as a contemporary response to Thomas Gainsborough's iconic Blue Boy portrait (1770). His painting reimagines Gainsborough's young white subject as a Black, Senegalese surfer and replaces the original moody wooded landscape with a vibrant floral backdrop which decorates the entire surface of the shirt.

Wiley will donate all net proceeds from the Kehinde Wiley Shop to directly support Black Rock, his artist in residence program in Dakar, Senegal.

Sublimated ring-spun poly.

About Black Rock Senegal

Established in 2019, Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by Kehinde Wiley in Dakar, Senegal. The program brings together international artists to live and work at Wiley’s coastal compound for 1-3 month residencies. Designed by Senegalese architect Abib Djenne, the complex includes a residence and studio space for Wiley along with 3 single-occupancy residency apartments with adjacent studio spaces. Our mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa. More information about Black Rock is available online at www.blackrocksenegal.org.
